Matthew Newton

Matthew Newton is the director of publishing at Carnegie Museum of Art. In his role, he oversees the museum's publishing program, which handles all editorial, multimedia, and photographic content for the institution's robust exhibition and educational programming. He is also the editorial director of Storyboard, the institution’s award-winning online journal. Newton also serves on the editorial board for Looking at Appalachia, a documentary archive that explores the diversity of the region 50 years after the declaration of the War on Poverty. His essays have been published by the Oxford American, Guernica, The Rumpus, and The Paris Review, and his reporting has appeared in Esquire, Forbes, and Spin. His debut book Shopping Mall was published by Bloomsbury in September 2017. He is currently at work on an essay collection.
