Altered Landscapes

Issue 03

It’s been nearly 60 years since the publication of Silent Spring, Rachel Carson‘s seminal book warning the American public about the harmful environmental effects of synthetic pesticides. In that time, humans have transformed Earth’s natural landscape so dramatically that as many as one million plant and animal species are now at risk of extinction. Storyboard no. 03, “Altered Landscapes,” examines transformation—whether environmental, familial, architectural, or social—as a way to better understand our place in the world.
